Week 25 Trainee Digest

Dear All, 
 
Welcome to the round-up and final week before the Easter break. It is beginning to feel like the final push towards QTS now with the 80% teaching right around the corner. I was very sorry to hear that the trainer did not arrive on Monday for one of the sessions. Our apologies for this. We will look into how we can ensure a catch-up session. 
 
Teaching is at 60% next week. Teaching at 80% is immediately after the Easter break. Please make sure your timetable for 80% is uploaded to Google Classroom. The time-table should clearly state the lesson times and who the class teacher is. 
 
Next week: 
 
On Wednesday there is an on-line session with Jason Darvall on the post 16 curriculum. There is PE ITaP on Friday at CCS.

Week 24 Trainee Digest

Dear All, 
 
I hope you have all had a good week. Here is your round-up. 
 
Teaching is at 60% next week. Please make sure you are observing the classes you will pick up at 80%. 
 
Next week: 
 
Monday is central training beginning at 9am with Edwina. You will be revisiting questioning and assessment for learning. This is followed by Effective Communication in the Classroom Part 2 led by Kim Lynch, SENDCO at Guilsborough Academy. 
 
On Wednesday there is an on-line session, also with Kim on working with teaching assistants. 
 
Things to be working on:
UA2. The submission deadline is Monday 13th April. You may submit a draft of no more than 2,000 words to your tutor before the 22nd March. The window for draft submissions is open. 
Class Context sheets for all the classes you will teach. 
Gap Analysis 2 and SEND 2. 
Subject task 2 
 
Student Voice and Questions: 
 
When should we start the SEND 2 case study and when is the deadline? 
You may start at any point but need to allow enough time to complete 6 weeks. You need to be ready to upload by 22nd May. Assie will create a folder for you to upload to. 
 
When is the formal lesson plan no longer needed? 
All trainees may go to reduced planning when they go up to 80%. This does not mean NO PLANNING -all teachers plan, but it means you can stop using the lesson planning document. 
Trainees may ask their mentor and subject leader to drop the lesson planning document when they go to 60%, but this is not automatic. It can only happen if the mentor, subject leader and link director are all in agreement. It needs to be approved.

Week 23 Trainee Digest

Dear All, 
 
I hope your first week of teaching has gone well. It was great to catch up with you all on Tuesday and hear how things are going in your new placements. It is very normal to feel a little overwhelmed at first - it is a lot of change for everyone. People usually feel much more settled by the third and fourth week, but if you have concerns at any point, please drop us a line. 
 
Teaching is at 40% next week. It is a very good idea to be observing all classes you will teach, even if just once a week. This gives you the best chance of having a strong start when you take over. 
 
Next week: 
 
You are teaching Monday - Friday next week. There is a live NASBTT session from Dylan Wiliam on Assessment. Here is the link. If you click on the link now it gives you an option to save it to your calendar so it is to hand on Tuesday.

The question was asked about M level tutors and whether they would change. Yes, there have been some changes and Assie is emailing everyone to confirm their markere. There was also a question relating to draft submission, which has been answered above. 
 
Top Tip:
Make a strong start with your informal observation book. Give it to all your teachers to complete, Have a post-it note with your current targets to ensure they give you sharply focused feedback.
