Welcome to the weekly round-up. I hope you have all had a good week building on your micro-teaching and getting settled in schools.
Next week:
GPS Monday 12th October am: Assessment for Learning 1: good proxies for learning 1with me.
GPS Monday 12th October pm: Helping Pupils Learn Part 2: Worked examples and using non-examples with Nathan. Please bring your pupil profile sets, which were issued in the SEND session.
Wednesday Twilight is actually a Thursday 15th October live twilight delivered by NASBTT.. You will need your NASBTT log in for this, so it would be worth trying the link before the session. Sue Cowley will be discussion Secondary Behaviour 4.40-5pm. The training will be available as a recording after the event, if you miss it. That does mean you miss out on asking questions and hearing people’s responses.
Your in-school training record for week 7 should be downloaded and saved. Complete the necessary sections and email to your mentor before your mentor meeting.
Things to be working on:
School Induction Task - Task 1: Meeting with the SENDco (or delegated person) as a group. When: Any time in Term 1.
School Induction Task - Task 2: School Context When: Anytime in Term 1 with the presentation taking place in week 8 or 9. (A person working on their own, may appear to have a greater workload than someone working in a group, however, it is also true that some things can be achieved more quickly when one is relying solely on oneself. Just a thought. That said, we are mindful of workload, so if you have concerns, please speak to us).
Task 3: Shadowing a TA. When: Any time in Term 1.
Subject Task 1. When: agreed with subject leader
Class Context SE1 forms. When: anytime in Term 1 ready for teaching.
SEND case study. When: begin working on this in Term 2. The presentation to the SEND Lead will take place later in Term 2, likely mid-December. TBC
Every week you complete a focused lesson observation as prescribed in the in-school training record. You use the form provided here. From week 8 onwards you will also have two formal lesson observations of your teaching. The form for this is here. Both observations are recorded with a hyperlink in the Training, Reflection and Tracking form can be found here.
Every week you update your Subject Substantive Knowledge document.
Questions:
How much should I be teaching now? We would be expecting everyone to build on their micro-teaching with their time-tables classes from now on, if you and your mentor are in agreement that this is the best thing. You do not start teaching classes until you have observed the class teacher with them at least once. You don’t have any formal observations until week 8, so feedback is informal only in your notebook. You will now begin to build up your teaching aiming for teaching your timetable in its entirety by the end of November.
How do I fill in the in-school training record? Please invite your subject leader to review what you and your mentor are doing, if you are unsure. They will be able to guide you. Edwina has also kindly offered to do a WAGOLL, which will arrive in due course.
