Geography PGCE 11-18
This GUTP course prepares trainees to teach a variety of Geography courses, including: GCE Geography AS/A2 level, GCSE Geography, and humanities at KS3. The course is carefully tailored to meet the Teachers’ Standards and includes training on:
- The Geography curriculum
- Lesson planning and teaching strategies
- Assessment strategies
- Positive Behaviour Management
- Ensuring pupil progress
- Applying assessment criteria in Geography
- How to motivate students of all abilities and socio-economic backgrounds
- Teaching in a humanities department
- ICT and Geography
- Field Work and trip planning
- Data Handling
Training for each subject is undertaken through a number of twilight sessions and subject training days held in the various schools throughout the academic year during the working week.
Support during the course:
The Geography PGCE is co-ordinated and managed by an experienced teacher of Geography in one of our partner schools ensuring that your training is up-to-date and relevant to schools. This ensures you the best start in your teaching career. You will have a dedicated School Based Tutor on both your school placements and a dedicated link Director. These key staff are there to support and guide you through the course and into your ECT (early career teaching) years.
Entry Requirements:
Potential trainees must possess a relevant degree and grade C, or above, in Maths and English at GCSE (this would equate to a grade 4 or above for the new GCSE). Relevant experience may also be considered.
