Training for each subject is undertaken through a number of twilight sessions and subject training days held in the various schools throughout the academic year during the normal working week.
Support during the course
The Physical Education PGCE is co-ordinated and managed by an experienced science teacher from one of our partner schools ensuring that your training is up-to-date and relevant to schools. This ensures you the best start in your teaching career. You will also have a dedicated School Based Tutor on both your school placements and a dedicated Link Director. These key staff are there to support and guide you through the course and into your NQT year.
Potential Associate Teachers will need a relevant degree and grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English (this would equate to a grade 4 or above for the new GCSE). Relevant experience working in the physical education field may be considered. Strong A level qualifications would be an advantage as many PE teachers also teach a second subject.
Physical Education with an Ebacc subject
In addition to our core Physical Education PGCE we are also able to offer an alternative route into teaching. In order to be eligible for this route you will need an A level grade C or above in an Ebacc subject (English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Science, Computer Science, Modern Foreign Language). Associate teachers on this route qualify to teach Physical Education, but are also supported in developing subject knowledge and given teaching experience in their second subject in readiness for teaching.
Exam boards used by the schools in which Associate Teachers train include AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJE. Click on the links below to access these sites.
