Modern Foreign Languages 11-18
This modern foreign languages PGCE course prepares trainees to teach either French, German or Spanish across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. All of our partner schools offer at least two languages up to A Level; As such, we encourage our trainees to work on developing a second or third language in order to enhance their employment prospects. This course is carefully tailored to meet the Teachers’ Standards and includes training on:
- The National Curriculum
- GCSE and A level specifications
- Lesson planning and teaching strategies including four skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing
- Assessment Strategies
- Classroom management
- ensuring pupil progress
- Teacher and pupil use of the target language in the classroom
- Fostering inter-cultural understanding
- Use of ICT to enhance learning
Training for each subject is undertaken through a number of twilight sessions and subject training days held in the various schools throughout the academic year during the normal working week.
Support during the course
The MFL PGCE is co-ordinated and managed by an experienced teacher of MFL in one of our partner schools ensuring that your training is up-to-date and relevant to schools. This ensures you the best start in your teaching career. You will have a dedicated School Based Tutor on both your school placements and a dedicated link Director. These key staff are there to support and guide you through the course and into your ECT (early career teaching) years.
Entry Requirements
Potential trainees wishing to embark on the training programme must possess a relevant degree and grade C, or above, in Maths and English at GCSE. Relevant experience may also be considered.
